Treatment for spider stings

Spider bites can get cured within a week’s time on their own. However, it would take a little longer for the recluse spider bites to get cured and chances are that it may even leave a scar as well. I can suggest the following first aid treatments to apply for the spider stings of the dogs.

Cleansing

First clean the wound whilst using mild soap and with some water. That will be the first thing that your veterinarian would do.

Antibiotics

Consider applying an antibiotic ointment thrice a day (under your veterinarians instruction) so that you can avoid the infection spreading further. You could consider giving antibiotics if there is a serious infection particularly from recluse spiders. If the dogs suffer from black widows’ bites, anti-venom would be given to them. Besides, you can consider applying a cool compress over the bite for about 15 minutes on an hourly basis.

Ensure that you are using a clean cloth which is soaked with water. Unless you can use a cloth, which is also filled with ice. That will ease the pain and reduce swelling as well.

Pain Medication (under your veterinarians instruction)

In case if you find their affected area is itchy, you may use antihistamine like diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or cetirizine (Zyrtec). Check whether the bitten area gets worse. In case it does, you need to apply antibiotics so that it would avoid any potential infection in the wound. Consider placing the affected areas in an elevated place.

Oxygen Therapy

Your vet may consider giving an oxygen therapy for the dogs to make their breathing easy especially if the spider bite is on a severe level.

Fluids

Apart from the aforesaid treatments, your veterinarian may prescribe some fluids and he will supply them through IV.
